A Civics Lesson: Part I

We hold these Truths to be self-evident, that all Men are created equal, that they are endowed, by their CREATOR, with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness.

These words penned by Thomas Jefferson and edited by the greatest of American founding history are immortal to our nation and set the foundation of basic Judeo-Christian governance. As it is July I thought I would expound on these words and give 21st Century relivance to them.

"We hold these Truths to be self-evident..." In a day and age where 'truth' is relative to the beholder of what is seen or experienced self-evident Truth is harder to come by. With the rise of the religion secular humanism Einstein's theory of Relativity is liberally applied to the abstractness of thought instead of the reality of space and time. The Apostle Paul told the Christians in Rome that, "For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse." (Romans 1:20 NIV). Jesus told his followers, "I am the way, the truth, and the life." He never illuded to another truth other than God.

The Truths spoken of in the Declaration of Independence are from God, so they are self-evident. They come from the wisdom of the Creator and not from the finite mind of men.
